Big Dogs
As you probably know already, Great Danes are big dogs. Yes, they are friendly and adorable, but they are huge. Some Great Danes will weigh 150 pounds or even more. Hunting Breed
Did you know that Great Danes originally were bred for hunting boars? With the history of Great Danes, it isn’t a surprise that they were bred to be hunters. They are strong and massive. They are also very protective of their owners, making them one of the best guard dogs out there.
Even though these dogs were hunting dogs in the past, that doesn’t mean they can’t be sweet and loving family dogs. They are friendly, too. If you are looking for a guard dog that will also be great with your family, a Great Dane might be the right dog breed for you.
Puppy Maturity but Massive Physicality
If you have been checking into the Great Dane price and have decided to get this type of dog, there is one thing to keep in mind. Even when Great Danes are puppies, they are huge. With this being said, they are still immature when young. This means that you will have this large dog jumping around your home so puppy-proofing your home is a must.
They might accidentally knock things over because they are so excited. Usually, around 3 years old, Great Danes will be matured. If you do obedience training with your Great Dane early on, that will help a great deal.
Caring for your dog
Caring for your dog is sometimes a full-time job. There are so many things to know, and so little time to research!
Here at Petsmont, we have a team whose only job is to research the best ingredients for dog products. And because Fleas & Ticks are such a big headache for dog owners, we have developed our very own & natural Flea & Tick Collar for dogs. Say goodbye to fleas, your dog will thank you!
If you live in a rural or urban area, you will want to shield your dog's paws from hard surfaces, hot pavement or even salty ice. No more dry, cracked paws. You will see a difference after the very first application.
Different Colors Recognized by the AKC
If you are looking into different Great Dane breeders, one of the things you should know is there are different colors that are recognized by the AKC. If you see a Great Dane of a color that you don’t recognize, it doesn’t mean they aren’t purebred. You might see a black, blue, white, merle, mantle, harlequin, brindle, or fawn-colored Great Dane puppies for adoption.
Nutrition is Important
When it comes to caring for a Great Dane, you need to pay attention to their nutrition. These dogs are very big so it's only right that you give them the best food for large dog breeds. This means that they need to have enough healthy and quality food to help them grow. However, at the same time, you need to make sure that you aren’t overfeeding them. If they grow too quickly, it could result in a health condition that causes spinal issues.
As long as you feed your Great Dane according to the veterinarian’s recommendations, everything should be fine in this regard.

My great Dane lived 13 years. She got Arthritis about 1 or 2 yrs before and when She could not get up and walk, we had to put her to sleep. It was the most difficult thing I ever had to do.
I would like to know what are the 5 best brands of dog food to feed a Great Dane? Do I go by protein or by the type of ingredients that are in it? Also can you recommend treats and toys that would be good as danes are chewers with very strong jaws as they pop most balls, and other regular dog toys I don’t want my dog swallowing, squeezers, eyes, etc. I know not to feed rawhide but are regular bones good for them?
