Ferrets are very cute pets. They are affectionate and they act a lot like kittens. They get into everything and they like to climb on things. It is important to know that ferrets aren’t rodents, even though many people believe they are. They should not be treated like rodents either.   • Get them a cage made of wire mesh. Your ferret needs to have enough space in their cage and be able to climb throughout their cage. 
  • Getting a carrier. You can use a cat carrier for when you decide to take your pet ferret somewhere. 
  • Getting a bed for your ferret. It is important that you have a place where your ferret can be comfortable. Getting them a bed, such as a hammock, for inside their cage be sure to make them comfortable and give them somewhere to rest. 
  • Getting a water bottle and food dish. For proper ferret pet care, you need to make sure your ferret has access to water and food when needed. 
  • Getting the proper litter box. There are litter boxes that are designed for ferrets. 
  • Get a leash and harness. It is important that your ferret comes out of their cage at least a couple times every day. If you would like to get your ferret outdoors, having a leash and a harness is a great idea. 
  • Getting enough toys. Ferrets are very playful animals. They need to have toys that they can play with at all times. You should get them toys that stay in their cage and toys that go out of their cage, too.

    Feeding Your Pet Ferret

There are no dairy products in these pellets and they aren’t made with by-products, either. In addition, these pellets have plenty of protein with no carbohydrates. They are just what your ferret needs to stay healthy. 
  • Use kitten food for an alternative. If you can’t find ferret food at your local stores, you can buy kitten food for your ferret, as long as it is soft. Just make sure there are no carbohydrates in this food. 
  • Get the best treats. There are many kitten treats that are healthy for ferrets. You will want to get the treats that are made with lamb or chicken. These treats should be soft and only given to your ferret sometimes. They should not be the main food given to your ferret. You can also give your ferret scrambled eggs for a snack. 
  • Don’t feed your ferret vegetables or fruits. This is very important for your ferret’s health. 
  • Be sure fresh water is available always. Your ferret is going to play a lot, so they are always going to need fresh water to keep them hydrated.

    Handling Your Pet Ferret

    There are some handling tips that you should follow for pet ferrets, as well. Some of these tips include the following:

  • You should always hold your ferret underneath their chest with one hand.
  • You should use your other hand to support their bottom. 
  • You can lift them up by the scruff of their neck while holding up their bottom. 
  • You should keep your ferret held close to your body. 
  • You should use a carrier when you are transporting your ferret in a vehicle. 
  • Being able to properly handle your ferret will help to keep them safe at all times. 

    Ferret Cleaning Tips

    You will also want to make sure your ferret is cleaned regularly, too. Some of the ferret cleaning tips that you should follow include:

  • You should give your ferret a bath once every month. 
  • You should only put 2 to 3 inches of warm water into their bath. 
  • You should specifically use baby shampoo or ferret shampoo. 
  • You can use a wet, soft cloth to clean your ferret. 
  • You should use a towel to dry off your ferret after their bath. 
  • Your ferret should be brushed once a week to get rid of their dead hair. 

  • These are some of the tips that can help you to keep your ferret clean. 

    Remember, there are certain foods that your ferret should be eating and certain foods they should avoid, as well. They are going to be playful, so be sure they have the food they need to stay energized and the water they need to stay hydrated.
