Are you hoping to bring a dog into your family? If so, one of the cutest and most intelligent dog breeds is the rottweiler. These dogs are great family pets and they are extremely intelligent. Research shows that the rottweiler ranks in the top 10 smartest dogs in the world. If you want to know more about the dog intelligence of a rottweiler, keep reading here today.

Measuring the Intelligence of a Rottweiler

There have been different psychologists that test the intelligence of different dog breeds. For example, Stanley Coren (a psychologist) did a lot of research and studies to help determine the intelligence of dogs, specifically that of a rottweiler. The intelligence was based on how many times a rottweiler could do something new and the percentage of which they obey when told to do a command. Together, these things will show how well a rottweiler learns and retains information they are taught. With Coren’s study, the results showed that a rottweiler can retain information and learn new commands in only 5 repetitions, sometimes even less. In some instances, rottweilers were able to obey commands after being taught that command only once.

Rottweilers and Other Dogs

Many other dog breeds will take 25 to 40 times before they learn something new. This means a rottweiler is 5 to 8 times smarter than the average dog. If you are looking for one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world, a rottweiler is the type of dog you may want.

Reasons for Rottweiler Intelligence

There are many reasons why rottweilers are so intelligent. Some of these reasons include the following:
  • Great learners
  • Obedient compared to many other dog breeds
  • Excellent guardians or protectors for their family members
  • Interpret real threats
  • Able to quickly solve problems
  • Learns from their mistakes
  • Able to learn tasks quickly to help their owners

These are some of the many things that make rottweilers so smart. If you want a smart dog breed, a rottweiler might be the type of dog you choose to get.

Best Dog Breed for You

If you are looking for the best dog breed for you, a rottweiler might be the right choice. Even though they look and seem tough, they can be truly loving dogs. They are often extremely affectionate with their owners and playful, as well. They understand what their owner wants from them and if trained properly, they will do what they are asked. There are so many different dog breeds available that you can get. However, if you are looking for a smart, intelligent dog breed, the smart rottweilers may be the best choice for you. These dogs learn new tricks and commands quickly, sometimes even on the first try. In addition, rottweilers retain information well, so you won’t have to keep re-teaching them the same tricks over and over again.

Finally, a rottweiler will be a loving, protective dog for you and your family. Getting a rottweiler may just be the best decision when it comes to comparing them to other dog breeds.

Why are dogs intelligent?

With practice and proper training, dogs can read and show advanced memory skills. They can also react appropriately just like humans using body language.
